2023 NCAA Tournament Bracket Thoughts
The Field of 68 is Set
The Selection Show had four too many commercials during the bracket unveiling, but we have a bracket. Let’s get into my thoughts on the bracket.
The South Region
Alabama, rightfully, got a very favorable draw to get to the Elite Eight
Maryland’s matchup with West Virginia is not ideal
Both the 12 (Charleston) and 13 (Furman) seeds could win in the Round of 64
I think Creighton will beat Baylor in the Round of 32
Missouri (7) and Utah State (10) is a battle of OFFENSIVE EFFICIENCY
Arizona matches up well with Alabama if they get there
The Midwest Region
Marcus Sasser’s health is a HUGE factor for Houston
Auburn’s defensive numbers when guarding the three is problematic for Iowa
Drake is really old and if Miami doesn’t have Norchad Omier, they might be in trouble
Kent State is really good, I think Indiana survives them though
Iowa State is a huge question mark, I have no clue about them
Xavier vs. Texas could be a fun Sweet Sixteen game
Penn State and Texas A&M will be fascinating - Nittany Lions can shoot, Aggies can’t
Colgate is a great 15 seed, under seeded for sure
The West Region
Holy shit, this region is ELITE
Kansas is vulnerable right now, but I’ll trust Bill Self until they lose
The battle of two talented teams that are supremely inconsistent in the Arkansas/Illinois matchup
Rick Pitino vs. Danny Hurley - give it to me ALL DAY
Saint Mary’s and Gonzaga in the same region is kinda weird
This might be the year for Gonzaga
UCLA’s injuries likely hold them back from a super deep run - Gonzaga in the Sweet Sixteen is a tough matchup if it happens
The East Region
Purdue is a hard team to figure out - young guards and an easy road to a B1G Tournament Championship
Memphis and FAU is one of the best 8/9 matchups - likely behind Arkansas/Illinois
I wanted to pick Oral Roberts in the Round of 64 so badly, but Duke can lock them down
Tennessee won’t go far with Zakai Ziegler out
Providence stud Bryce Hopkins's Revenge Game Against Kentucky
Kansas State has two of the BEST players in the country
Michigan State could get to the Elite Eight, they don’t match up poorly against Marquette if they beat USC
